Full body scanners are starting to work today at UK airports.
London’s Heathrow Airport has started to conduct tests at its Terminal 4, while Manchester Airport is doing it at its Terminal 2. Birmingham Airport is expected to begin body scanners trials this month.
Transport Secretary Andrew Adonis said “Given the current security threat level, the government believes it essential to start introducing scanners immediately,”.
Even though only a small proportion of people will take part in the trials, the tests will be mandatory, that means if a passenger is selected for scanning, and declines, they will not be permitted to fly.
