»»American Airlines’ New Security Measures on Flights to the US
American Airlines has issued its new international security measures for passengers flying into the US from abroad.
AA’s website reads as follows:
- Check In Early For Travel From Canada To The U.S.
All passengers should plan to arrive at the airport at least three (3) hours in advance of their flight departure to allow extra time for check-in and the boarding process. As always, be sure to check your flight status information before you head to the airport.
- Carry-On Baggage Policy To The U.S.
From Europe To The U.S.
Effective immediately, and until further notice, customers traveling on American Airlines from Europe will be limited to one carry-on item. The carry-on item must fit in an overhead compartment or under the seat and cannot exceed 45 dimensional inches/114 cm (length + width + height) and weigh no more than 40 lbs/18 kgs. This limit will apply to customers originating on American Airlines and customers originating on other carriers connecting to American Airlines for flights to the U.S. from Europe.
Exemptions: The normal carry-on allowance of one bag plus one personal item still applies for:
-American Airlines AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum® or AAdvantage Gold® members
-oneworld Alliance Emerald, Sapphire or Ruby members
-Customers traveling in First Class
-Customers traveling in Business Class
-Customers traveling with PriorityAAccess
-AAirpass members
Checked bag charges will not apply for items that customers intended to carry on which are now restricted and must be checked. For this waiver to apply, the additional item being checked must be within the carry-on bag size limits of 45 dimensional inches/114 cm (length + width + height) and weigh no more than 40 lbs/18 kgs.
This restriction applies on all American Airlines flights to the United States from Barcelona, Brussels, Dublin, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Manchester, Milan, Paris, Rome, and Zurich.
From Canada To The U.S.
Effective immediately, and until further notice, customers traveling on American Airlines from Canada are permitted zero carry-on bags. Items that are excluded from this restriction include:
-small purses (not exceeding 12 x 10 x 5.5 in. or 30 x 25 x 14 cm)
-cameras
-coats
-items for care of infants
-laptop computers
-crutches
-canes
-walkers
-medications and medical devices
-musical instruments
