»»Air Passenger Traffic Will Continue To Decline Through 2010

According to a consulting firm’s forecast the air passenger traffic will continue to decline through 2010, the USA Today reports.

The Boyd Group, a Colorado-based consultant, predicts that next year 675 million passengers will depart on flights from U.S. airports – 74 million fewer than in 2008.

The Boyd Group’s report forecasts that passenger traffic will slowly rebound in 2011 but that even by 2014, there still will be 16 million fewer passengers traveling than in 2008.
The forecast is based on “economics and demographics at each airport,” including “airline seating capacity and strategy shifts,”

The latest data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics show that U.S. airlines carried about 346 million passengers during this year’s first six months, a 9% drop from the same period last year. (source)
