»»Airline Pet Policies - Southwest Concerned Over Passengers’ Complaints

Beginning June 17, Southwest passengers will be able to travel with small pets — the cost for taking pets in the cabin is $75 each way. However, there are concerns that the new Southwest’s pet-friendly police could bring protests from people concerned about allergies, onboard barking and smelly conditions.

The Denver Post quoted Southwest spokesman Chris Mainz as saying “were not something we had heard prior to rolling out the policy […] We will quickly make accommodations if a pet is causing any disruption in flight“.

Major carriers that have recently introduced pets-in-the-cabin policies do not seem so worried about travelers’ complaints.

At United, that like Southwest allows small pets in containers that are stowed under the seat in front of the passenger, say that problems “don’t seem to come up often,”.
American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith says: “We don’t guarantee our flights are allergy-free, or fragrance-free or there hasn’t been an animal there […] We work with people, or move them, but it really has not been a big, big problem.

American, United, Delta and JetBlue are among those charging $100 to $150 for taking pets onboard.
