»»AirTran Launches Wi-Fi - the Service Offered on Every Flight by July

AirTran Airways launched its wireless Internet service on a promotional test flight yesterday.

The low-fare carrier said it will this summer become the first large U.S. airline to offer wireless Internet access on every flight across the Unites States.

AirTran plans to have all of its fleet of 136 aircraft equipped with the Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi service by late July.

Aircell, the provider of the Gogo wireless service, says more than 1,000 jets from several North American carriers will be Wi-Fi-equipped by year’s end. The average price of the service is $7.95 to $12.95 a flight, depending on the device and the length of the flight.
