»»Continental Airlines To Slash Flight Capacity and Jobs

A day after United Airlines announced plans to cut jobs and flights, another big airline, Continental Airlines said it will cut 3,000 jobs and reduce flight capacity by 11% of its domestic flight starting later this summer.

Continental said it is grounding 67 of its own mainline service; according to Houston Chronicle, the carrier will eliminate the 737-300 from its lineup.

The airline, which explained this move is due to fuel costs and a crisis in the industry, says in a press release: “The airline industry is in a crisis. Its business model doesn’t work with the current price of fuel and the existing level of capacity in the marketplace,“.

Another big carrier, American Airlines, announced last month plans to cut jobs and to reduce flight capacity.
